Package Includes

Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, is no ordinary place. It is a Himalayan kingdom replete with myths and legends, where the best of traditional culture thrives and the latest global developments are enthusiastically embraced. This country of rolling hills and towering crags certainly exudes charm. The mountains are magnificent, the forest are dense, the people are delightful, the air is pure, the architecture inspiring, the religion exciting and the art superb. 

 
 

Day 1: Arrive Paro and transfer to Thimphu (55 km, 2 hrs)
Flight to Bhutan provides a wonderful view of Himalayan scenery. On arrival, you will be met by our representative and drive to Thimphu (55 km, 2 hours), the modern capital town of Bhutan. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu. 


Day 2: Thimphu 
Today's full day of sightseeing in Thimphu valley includes visit to: National Library, which houses an extensive collection of Buddhist literature with some works dating back several hundred years: Zorig Chusum (commonly known as the Painting School): Traditional Medicine Institute, the rich herbal medicines abundant in Kingdom is prepared here: Textile and Folk Heritage Museum, the fascinating testimony of the Bhutanese material culture and living traditions: Memorial Chorten; the beautiful stupa built in the memory of Bhutan's third King: Trashichhodzong, the beautiful medieval fortress / monastery which houses most of the Government's office and King's Throne room, the: Handicrafts Emporium, which displays wide assortment of beautifully hand-woven and crafted products. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu. 


Day 3: Thimphu - Trongsa (200 km, 6 hrs)
After early breakfast, drive to Dochula pass (3,050 m). If the weather permits, you can see a range of high Himalayan peaks towards the north east. Further drive onwards arriving Wangduephodrang town for lunch. Then proceed to Tongsa across Pelela pass (3,300 m), the traditional boundary between east and west. Stop enroute at Chendbji Chorten, which was built in 18th century by a Lama named Shida, it is Nepalese in style with eyes painted at four cardinal points. 


Day 4: Trongsa - Bumthang (68 km, 3 hrs)
After breakfast, visit Trongsa Dzong. Built in 1648, it was the seat of power over central and eastern Bhutan. Both the first and second King ruled the country from this ancient seat. Then visit Ta Dzong (watch tower), dedicated to Buddhist epic hero, King Gesar of ling. Later drive to Bumthang. Overnight at the lodge in Bumthang. 


Day 5: Bumthang
After breakfast, visit Kurje Lhakhang where the saint Padmasambhava subdued a local demon and left his body imprint on a rock; the Jambey Lhakhang (7th century temple), Tamshing Monastery (one of the oldest monastic school), the Jakar Dzong (administrative centre of the region) and Swiss Farm House. Stroll in the village, visit the little handicrafts shop at the entrance to the town, and perhaps take refreshments at a local restaurant. Overnight at the lodge in Bumthang. 


Day 6: Bumthang - Punakha (215 km, 7 hrs)
After breakfast explore fascinating valley of Bumthang. Then proceed to Trongsa where lunch would be served in local restaurant, famous for its traditional cuisine. Visit Wangduephodrang Dzong and town en route to Punakha. Upon arrival, check-in at the hotel. Evening at leisure. Overnight at the hotel in Punakha. 


Day 7: Punakha - Paro (130 km, 5 hrs)
Morning visit Punakha Dzong, the 17th century fortress that is the seat of the district administration and the winter residence of the monk body, followed by a stroll of the local market. After lunch, drive to Paro (150 kms) en route visit Simtokha Dzong. This dzong, built in 1627 is the oldest in Bhutan. It now houses the Institute for Language and Culture Studies. On arrival in Paro, check-in to the hotel for overnight stay. 


Day 8: Paro 
In the morning, take an excursion to Taktsang Monastery. Legend says that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hence it is called 'Tiger's Nest'. This site has been recognised as a most sacred place and visited by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and now visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime. While returning to hotel visit en route, Kyichu Lhakhang, built in the 7th century by the Tibetan king, Songtsen Gampo. In the evening visit local market and overnight at the hotel in Paro. 


Day 9: Depart Paro 
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.

Any increase in taxes or fuel, leading to an increase in surface transportation & land arrangements which may come into effect prior to departure.

Any cost arising due to natural calamities like landslides, road blocks etc (to be borne by the clients directly on the spot).

Remarks: Fundoo Vacations holds the right to change the airline/hotel and travel date (any point of time before the departure of the tour, alternate options will be advised in case this happens). Surcharges might be applicable in case the dates fall under any events or trade fairs.
